Wellington
Located at the bottom of the North Island, Wellington is New Zealand's capital city, and the country's arts and culture capital.
The city is home to New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa, which tells stories of New Zealand and her people in a unique and innovative way. The city is also home to some boutique shops, art galleries and trendy cafés and restaurants.
Wellington's charm also lies in its close proximity to nature, nestled between a beautiful harbour and forested hills. Seaside villages, ocean beaches, Kapiti Island and The Wairarapa can all be explored from Wellington.
The Wairarapa
Tucked away in the south-east corner of the North Island just an hour's drive from Wellington, the Wairarapa - meaning 'the land of the glistening waters' - is one of New Zealand's best kept secrets.
Fringed by the Tararua Mountains to the west and rugged coast to the east, this charming part of New Zealand appeals to those who love good food, wine and natural beauty. The most well-known of the region's five townships, sleepy Martinborough is home to more than thirty boutique wineries whilst Greytown, its charming neighbour, boasts quaint cafés, galleries and craft shops - and is another great base from which to explore the region's vineyards.
