Christchurch
Christchurch is the main gateway to the South Island and undoubtedly where visitors choose to spend some time at the beginning or end of their time in New Zealand. Christchurch has a distinctly English feel, with its river and parkland.
Kaikoura
Nestled between the mountains and the sea a 2 to 2.5 drive north of Christchurch, Kaikoura is known for its whales, dolphins and seals which live in the bay year round - this is undoubtedly New Zealand's whale watching capital! Marine life aside, this is a beautiful area to visit - we highly recommend joining our local guide Maurice for an insight into Maori culture.
Other delights of the Canterbury region include the charming French settlement of Akaroa on the beautiful Banks Peninsula and the jagged peaks of the Southern Alps.
