A unique and exciting way to discover New Zealand's stunning coastline
The introduction of luxury expedition vessel, the Oceanic Discoverer, to New Zealand’s waters has provided a new, unique and exciting way to discover the country’s stunning coastline. The Oceanic Discoverer operates regular sailings between Auckland and the Bay of Islands (or vice-versa) during the summer months, as well as a less frequent 12 night voyage between Auckland and Milford Sound. Accommodating a maximum of just 72 passengers in 36 spacious and modern staterooms (all of which have ocean views, queen or kingsize beds, ensuite bathrooms, sofas and large wardrobes), this purpose-built expedition vessel offers the comfort and facilities of a larger ship, yet is small enough to access sites otherwise inaccessible by the bigger ships. The unique voyage between Auckland and the Bay of Islands showcases the spectacular aquatic scenery of New Zealand’s Far North. You will discover deep waterways and secret coves, enjoy guided walks and fascinating lectures by expert naturalists, observe native birds and wildlife and go exploring in the specially designed excursion vessel, aptly named ‘Xplorer’. Day 1 - Auckland, Tiri Matangi and Kawau Islands Depart Auckland this morning and enjoy the views of the ‘City of Sails’ and the Hauraki Gulf as you cruise to Tiri Tiri, one of only two scientific reserves in New Zealand. Enjoy a guided walk before continuing on to historic Kawau Island. Get to know your fellow guests over the Captain’s Welcome Cocktails this evening. Day 2 - Great Barrier Island Cruise into beautiful Port Fitzroy, passing oyster farms and spectacular scenery on the way, before joining an experienced guest lecturer and expedition leader on a guided walk through native bush. Day 3 - Mokohinau and Poor Knights Islands Visit the remote nature reserve of the Mokohinau Islands and sail on to the Poor Knights Islands –where dramatic scenery and nature await! Day 4 - Whangamumu and Whangaroa Harbour Cruise north to Whangamumu - discover the remains of a whaling station and join the expedition leader and guest lecturers on a walk through this remote location. Marvel at the stunning scenery as you enter Whangaroa Harbour – and then board the ‘Xplorer’ to go in search of secluded bays. Day 5 - Bay of Islands Spend a full day exploring the Bay of Islands today. Highlights include the Hole in the Rock, Deep Water Cove, Urupukapuka, Roberton Island and Keri-Keri Inlet. Enjoy the Captain’s Farewell Cocktails in the sheltered harbour tonight – before your voyage aboard Oceanic Discoverer comes to an end tomorrow. Day 6 - Paihia Disembark in Paihia this morning.
