Boasting a wonderfully remote location on a working deer stud near Winton (30 minutes from Invercargill), Tikana – which means ‘style’ in Maori – is best described as a luxury lodge where you will be the only guests! The straw-bale house (which has been awarded an Enviro Gold - the highest recognition for their practice of sustainable living) has a feeling of warmth and understated country luxury – with a large open fireplace, lofty ceilings, exposed wooden beams and breathtaking views across the surrounding countryside. Located on a mezzanine level, the stylishly designed bedroom boasts a super-king bed and ensuite bathroom complete with double sinks, oversized shower and sunken bath set beside a picture window with wonderful rural views. Downstairs, the spacious living room has a log fire, and a miniature wine cellar built into the wall. The dining area and small kitchen will be well-stocked with soft drinks and deli-style nibbles for your arrival – and there is also an espresso machine. Tikana is ideally designed for two, but a second sleeping nook off the living/dining room can accommodate an additional two children. Owners, Dave and Donna, live nearby and will delight in preparing gourmet meals especially for you, with a focus on fresh Southland produce including Tikana’s own venison, bluff oysters, lamb and whitebait. Tikana suits romantic couples or small families looking to unwind and explore this less visited corner of New Zealand. Wonderful bush walks await – and a day exploring the Catlins or Stewart Island with a private guide can easily be arranged. Should you arrive into Dunedin, enjoy the luxury of your own private transfers with a private day tour of the Caitlins - a great way of exploring this amazing coastline enroute to Tikana. We also highly recommend the unique ‘Fiordland Wilderness Expedition’ but If this all sounds too active, just relax in the hot-tub or indulge in a spa treatment in the privacy of the lodge!
