This secluded eco-hideaway sits on five acres of coastal hillside amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Otago Peninsula, a 25 minute drive from Dunedin. Architecturally built from Macrocarpa timber and finished with local volcanic stonework, the interiors of this three-bedroomed retreat are stylish and understated, with a focus on the beautiful surroundings! The three bedrooms are each named after one of the many visiting birds – and boast private bathrooms and estuary views. The rooms can either be booked individually, or – for small groups – the whole house can be booked exclusively. Taking centre-stage is the stylish open-plan living area with cosy open fire, floor-to-ceiling windows and mesmerising water views! Owners Kyle and Rachel live next door and provide continental breakfast each morning, but otherwise, Kaimata works on a self-catering basis. The contemporary kitchen will be stocked with essential provisions, but if you do not feel like cooking, gourmet picnic lunch hampers can be arranged – and for dinner, the restaurants in Portobello Village are just 10 minutes away. The Otago Peninsula is a haven for nature lovers –Yellow-Eyed Penguins, Hooker’s Sea Lions, Blue Penguins, New Zealand Fur Seals and the rare Royal Albatross all call this beautiful region home. A ‘must’ is a unique half or full day's fascinating exploration of the peninsula with our specialist local guide, Brian – but it is also worth hiring your own vehicle too… otherwise, simply enjoy the peace, serenity and wildlife from Kaimata’s deck or private beach!
