This charming and colourful retreat is a real hidden treasure. Nestled into the hillside overlooking Port Nelson and the Tasman Bay, this luxury cottage is creation of New Zealand artist Jane Evans. Both the interior and exterior will inspire you with the choice of colours, the sumptuous furnishings and the delightful touches, such as fresh flowers and a generous fruit bowl to make sure your stay is perfect. Large windows and doors fold back to allow the sea breezes in whilst you relax with one of the many books on offer in the comfortable lounge. Colourful artworks adorn the walls, many of which are Jane's as well as other local artists. The master bedroom is fitted with a luxury queen size bed, polished rimu wooden floors and handmade beaten steel suitcase racks and hangers. The ensuite bathroom features a Philippe Starck free standing floor tap over a claw foot slipper bath. The second bedroom is fitted with twin brass beds and a separate bathroom offers an open wet shower area, lavatory as well as full laundry facilities. 39 Russell is much more than just a Bed and Breakfast cottage, the stylishly appointed kitchen has both fridge and pantry generously stocked with goodies to tempt you to dine in; gold medal local olive oils, fresh salad greens, homemade fresh pasta and salsa, sweet tomatoes on the vine...choose orchard picked fresh seasonal fruit from a bowl crafted by one of Nelson’s well known ceramic artists; and open a bottle of Nelson’s noted Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from the selection of superb local wines all provided as part of the hospitality extended to you.
A large outdoor dining table stands under a pergola for al fresco dining in all seasons. The courtyard with gas barbeque is planted in olives, feijoas and citrus with an established apricot tree, which bears delicious fruit in season. Theatrically lit at night, it creates a romantic ambience for you to relax in. Should you wish to leave the tranquillity of the Cottage, several award winning restaurants are a short walk away on the waterfront and the cottage is just a few minutes from either the centre of Nelson, or the beach.
