Every inch of The Spire screams ‘cool and chic’. To appear in Tatler Travel Guide’s ‘101 Best Hotels in the World’ and Condé Nast Traveller’s prestigious ‘Hot List’ was therefore not a huge surprise to this gloriously trendy little gem! Set back from the lakefront in the heart of Queenstown, an unassuming exterior houses ten sleek and stylish suites, an intimate restaurant and a cocktail bar (with live jazz on Friday and Saturday evenings). Contemporary and ultra-stylish, the spacious rooms are richly decorated in shades of burgundy and cream, with super-king beds, fireplaces, designer furniture and hi-tech ‘toys’ which include 42-inch plasma screens, DVD players, surround-sound, Wi-Fi, Windows Media Centre software and BeoCom cordless phones. Balconies and swish bathrooms with louvred shutters, oversized bath-tubs, separate showers, double sinks and luxurious Evolu toiletries are also features of every room. Other thoughtful touches include a pillow menu and DVD library. The restaurant is highly recommended for dinner (open Tuesdays to Saturdays) – the creative dégustation menu is a ‘must try’! A restaurant gourmet breakfast is included in your stay. Needless to say, Queenstown’s many other restaurants and bars are just a stone’s throw away, as is the stunningly beautiful Lake Wakatipu. A fully stocked mini-bar and transfers from Queenstown airport (if required) are also included. There’s simply no question that this is one of New Zealand’s coolest places to stay!
