Whare Kea Lodge

Located on 60 acres of private farmland on the shores of Lake Wanaka, this luxurious retreat has been perfectly designed to take full advantage of its magnificent setting – floor-to-ceiling glass provides unobstructed views across the lake to the breathtaking mountains beyond!

The lodge – which means ‘house of the kea’ in Maori (the Kea, the world’s only alpine parrot, lives high above the snowline in the surrounding mountains) – caters for a maximum of just 12 guests at any one time in 6 stylish rooms, each of which enjoys spectacular lake views! All rooms also benefit from large ensuite bathrooms with separate showers, Bose stereo surround systems and direct access to a sundeck. The two master suites are slightly larger with a sofa, table and chairs.

Beautiful lakeside walks, invigorating mountain bike trails and superb trout and salmon fishing are all hallmarks of this stylish haven. And at the end of a busy day, relax in the outdoor hot tub, before indulging in some fine New Zealand wine and cuisine.

Located high in the Southern Alps at an altitude of 1700 metres, Whare Kea’s unique Alpine Chalet is a divine two bedroom hideaway – perfect for lovers of the great outdoors! Set on the edge of the Mount Aspiring National Park, this is no ordinary mountain hut! Accessible by helicopter and only available to guests staying at the lodge, you may opt to book exclusive use of the Alpine Chalet for one or more nights of your stay. You will be accompanied by a mountain guide – and all meals are included. In the winter and spring, the Chalet offers a spectacular base for heli-skiing – whilst in the summer, you can enjoy some incomparable high mountain walking!

PRICES Prices from £184 per person per night, based on 2 people sharing including breakfast and dinner. Supplements apply for the Alpine Chalet. Children under 18 years are not catered for.
