Nestled in the branches of a manuka grove with stunning mountain and sea views, five new Treehouses (completed in October 2006) are an exciting and much-anticipated addition to the existing six guest rooms already available at this delightful country inn in Kaikoura, which sits between the mountains and the sea on a deer stud and olive farm. Undeniably unique, and a complement to the breathtaking surrounding environment, the stylish and contemporary one bedroom Treehouses each feature a large spa bath, custom-made king bed, log-burning fireplace, widescreen television, Bose and Ipod stereo system, rain-fountain shower and heated flooring. Perfect for families, two bedroom Treehouses are also available. As an alternative, you could opt for the Olive House – a stylish and spacious apartment for two – located above the olive mill. Like the Treehouses, the Olive House boasts a kingsize bed, spa bath and wonderful views! In addition, it also has a full kitchen and twin balconies. Delicious evening meals are available in the main lodge (there is an emphasis on local seafood and venison) – and as from early 2007, Hapuku Lodge will benefit from a new spa treatment room and a gym. Whilst it was whale-watching that undoubtedly put Kaikoura on the map (and we highly recommend a trip to see the mighty Sperm Whales which live in the bay all year round), there are many other things to do in Kaikoura including swimming with dolphins and seals or joining local guide Maurice for an insight into Maori culture.
