Hidden away in the faraway waters of New Zealand’s Cavalli archipelago (a short helicopter or luxury launch transfer from Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands), Motukawaiiti Island is home to one of the world’s most exclusive hideaways – a private island escape catering for just one small group of guests at any time... and if that is not enough, this unique island stay comes complete with the use of a luxury motor yacht – ‘Missionhills’, a Spa and a team of island staff including personal chefs, butlers, yacht crew, fitness trainer and a PADI dive instructor, all of whom are dedicated to ensuring your every need is catered for!

Barefoot luxury prevails on the island – which can accommodate up to four guests in a combination of the original cottage (which is one of New Zealand’s oldest colonial wooden villas) and a modern annexe attached to the cottage via a glass walkway. The cottage itself boasts a large open-plan kitchen, a lounge and dining area with full entertainment system and a patio with verandah and table and chairs. Double doors open onto a kingsize bedroom and ensuite bathroom with rain-shower, claw-foot bath and glass roof – imagine soaking in the bath and just gazing at the stars above! The contemporary annexe houses a second lounge and ensuite bedroom which is entirely glass-fronted to take full advantage of the breathtaking views outside! For groups of more than four, additional guests can be accommodated onboard ‘Missionhills’.

Designed in a similar style to the new annexe, the stunning Pavillion boasts glass walls on three sides –all of which can be completely opened up to bring the outdoors in. There is also a bar area, a day bed which pulls down from the wall, a relaxing spa bath and an outside deck with heated pool.

Meals are not only designed especially for you by your own award-winning chef, but they are also served in the location of your choice – whether it be the Pavillion, the patio, a secluded bay or onboard ‘Missionhills’ – you can even request a traditional hangi on the beach – accompanied, of course, by fine wines from the cellar.

The crystal clear waters of the Cavalli Islands provide some of New Zealand’s best fishing and diving – and included in your stay is exclusive use of the luxury 72 foot motor yacht ‘Missionhills’. Explore the beauty of the surrounding area, try your hand at big game or deep sea fishing, go snorkelling or dive the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior.

The retreat is situated in its own natural bay with safe swimming, snorkelling and fishing directly from the shore. A number of watersports facilities including kayaks, jet-skis and water-skiing equipment are all provided.

The retreat also has a glass-fronted gym, sauna and state-of-the-art Spa which boasts massage tables, a shower jet room and a Vichy shower. Leading from the gym and spa, the outdoor deck with sunken spa bath is the perfect place to relax with a glass of Champagne and enjoy the magnificent views of the Bay of Islands – surely this is as close to paradise as it gets!
