Food & Wine
If food and wine are your passions, then a holiday tailored to gourmet living could just be your perfect honeymoon. A holiday based around food and wine can mean several things. There are of course stand out wine destinations such as South Africa, Australia and New Zealand where you can indulge your passion for the vine by visiting famous vineyards and wineries. Food and wine come hand in hand so if you were for instance to choose a honeymoon to Franschoek or Stellenbosch in South Africa, then you’ll also be spoilt for choice when it comes to fabulous restaurants. The great thing about choosing a destination like South Africa, Australia or New Zealand is that there’s so much to see and do. So, when you’ve visited your quota of vineyards, you can move on and sample some of the country’s other delights. The question here of course is whether you always want to stay in hotels with fabulous restaurants or if for part of your honeymoon, you’re happy to sacrifice world-class dining for a great location or cultural hotspot? You won’t necessarily have to (South African safari lodges are particularly well known for cuisine), but if you’d like to get off the beaten track, it may be a consideration you should take on board.
Of course, a food and wine honeymoon doesn’t have to mean vineyards and world-famous gourmet hotspots. It could also mean picking hotels and resorts with fantastic restaurants and great wine cellars. When it comes to this, the world really is your oyster. From the Caribbean to the Maldives, the South Pacific to South-East Asia, fantastic hotels can be found with reputations built on fine dining and great wine.
Where to go when... Australia, New Zealand and South Africa's world-renowned wine regions can be visited year round but the warmest months are during the UK winter.
