It’s the start of summer in the UK and in beautiful Bali (although no prizes for guessing where the better weather is!). The summer season lasts from April – October in Indonesia, making it a great destination for May newlyweds who want to mix a bit of beach action (try Seminyak or Jimbaran Bay if you like perfect sand and fabulous hotels) with culture and lush, natural beauty (Ubud and the Ayung River Valley are musts). Or for those seaking retreats far off the beaten track Northen Bali with it's long stretches of volcanic black sand beaches are the perfect luxurious escape.
The Seychelles, while smaller and not as culturally rich as Bali, have a similar natural vibe – islands with lush, mountainous interiors, amazing wildlife (keep an eye out for the giant turtles) and stunning beaches. May is great for a spot of luxury island hopping as the seas have calmed down following the winter rains.
Although a little further, The South Pacific is perfect honeymoon territory. These idyllic islands will certainly not disappoint - offering some of the most pristine islands, dramatic scenery and stunning hideaways that you will ever find - think Robinson Crusoe without the hardships!
For wildlife-lovers, Botswana is a great choice in May. From now until October, it’s dry season and the wildlife is concentrated along the delta’s flooded areas, making the animals easy to spot. And, while it’s the start of winter, it’s still warm. Neighbouring Zambia’s Victoria Falls are also spectacular at this time of year. It’s just after the rainy season, so the falls are in full flow, although be aware that there is so much water and spray that sometimes you can’t always see clearly.
Where to go... May is Fiji time enjoy the laid back lifestyle and 330 islands that Fiji has to offer ask our honeymoon team which one suits you. May is a great time to visit Botswana and the wonderful wildlife of the Delta ask for Jo about her experiences with Horace the Hippo!!!
