The E & O

Penang’s Eastern and Oriental is one of Asia’s truly iconic colonial hotels, along with Raffles in Singapore or the Oriental in Bangkok. Built in 1885, the hotel’s historic guests include Noel Coward, Rudyard Kipling and Somerset Maugham. Smartly dressed doormen greet you on arrival, making you feel as if you have stepped back in time.

Each of the 100 rooms and suites is decorated in a classic colonial style, with antique furniture, Oriental rugs and black and white tiled floors. Rooms are either city or sea-facing and all offer full butler service.

Located overlooking the sea in Penang’s Georgetown, the magnificent pool is a true feature, with its views of the sea and the colonial architecture of the hotel’s exterior.
