Ol Malo

Ol Malo is perched above the steep valley of the Uaso Nyiro River on the edge of the Northern Frontier District and is a ‘bush home’ in every sense of the word. The 5,000 acre Ol Malo ranch and game sanctuary is the long-standing home of one of Kenya’s most knowledgeable and fascinating settler families. You will be welcomed and personally hosted by Colin and Rocky Francombe, who have reared their family here for the past 30 years – and they enjoy a remarkably close relationship with their Samburu neighbours.

Located on the northern edge of the Laikipia Plateau, Ol Malo looks out over Kenya’s time honoured lands where you feel you can touch the very ends of the earth – this is splendid isolation at its very best! Accommodation is provided in four exquisite rock and olivewood thatched-roof cottages – all of which have been carefully positioned along the cliff edge to take full advantage of the breathtaking views. Cottages feature luxurious ensuite bathrooms, huge glass windows and private verandahs.

Watch the sun rise while on horseback, as it frames the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya or enjoy an early morning game drive. Mountain bike safaris, bush picnics, sundowners, walking safaris, camping trips with camels and visits to Samburu homesteads are all part of the Ol Malo experience. A stunning clifftop swimming pool is the ideal place to unwind and marvel at the rugged landscape.

Ol Malo is accessible by private charter direct to the Ol Malo airstrip or via a scheduled flight from Nairobi to Nanyuki, followed by a connecting charter.
