Vatulele Island Resort

South of Fiji’s largest island, Viti Levu, and accessible via a 30 minute light aircraft flight from Nadi, this stunning jungle-clad tropical island faces directly on to the South Pacific Ocean but is protected by a magnificent barrier reef which forms an extensive lagoon in front of the resort. Of Vatulele's 19 bures, 18 are located on the beachfront, whilst the premium bure, The Point, sits on a cliff edge overlooking the beach and lagoon. All meals, non-alcoholic beverages and all activities except scuba diving and massage are included in the tariff. Apart from the resort, the only other inhabitants of the island live in four villages. Most of the staff come from the villages and their natural gentleness and good humour captivates Vatulele guests.

Informality prevails. Vatulele’s laid-back style has been described as ‘barefoot chic’ – shoes are not even required for meals although most guests like to ‘dress up’ a little for the starlit dinners. Vatulele is famous for its food – at night, tables are set under the stars and are lit by lanterns and candlelight. Dinners are usually communal and hosted by the management – but romantic meals can easily be arranged – on an exclusive island in the lagoon, or on the beach under the moonlight, or even in the wine cellar!

The crystal clear waters are perfect for snorkelling, sailing, fishing and diving. There is also a tennis court. Escorted hikes into the jungle – and visits to the local villages can easily be arranged – and you can even play Robinson Crusoe for a day on nearby intimate ‘Nooki Nooki Island’ – so-named by a previous Vatulele guest!
