The island has just 12 bures in total, including 3 unique Treehouses perched high up in the treetops, commanding magnificent views over the beach, ocean and neighbouring islands. Honeymooners and romantic couples will adore the Treehouses – each of which has a separate living area, outdoor shower (no indoor shower) and a large deck complete with relaxing day bed and Jacuzzi. Spread out along the beach, the Beachfront Bures enjoy direct access to the pure white sands and turquoise water. Oceanview Bures nestle in the lush gardens and benefit from a private verandah. For families with older children (Matangi welcomes children 16 years and over) or two couples travelling together, the two-bedroom, two- bathroom Villa Matangi, tucked away on its own private point overlooking the ocean, is the perfect choice. Every bure has been modelled on the traditional Fijian home – so full use has been made of the native timbers with bamboo and coconut palm thatch. Other key features include high ceilings and large louvre windows which allow in the cool breezes and boast stunning views.

Matangi's cuisine is influenced by the surrounding ocean and the local fishermen’s catch of the day, as well as Fijian flavours including taro, breadfruit and coconut. The open-sided Vale-Ni-Kana restaurant enjoys cooling breezes and glorious ocean views. Each week, guests are invited to savour the delights of a traditional Fijian feast, a ‘lovo’, accompanied by singing and dancing, known as a ‘meke’.

Breakfast is buffet-style with hot food cooked to order. During breakfast, you'll select your lunch and dinner from a daily menu offering locally sourced produce and the finest, freshest ingredients, with local fishermen providing the catch of the day. Matangi’s idyllic Horseshoe Bay is the ultimate private picnic spot for a lunch to remember!

Matangi offers a wide range of activities. For the energetic, magnificent hiking trails await – one of the best being a steep climb through the rainforest to the summit of Matangi’s highest peak, where you will be rewarded with panoramic views of Horseshoe Bay below. On the way, walk through the old coconut plantations, which are now home to cows, goats, pigs and horses. A haven for divers, honeymooners and romantics, the island boasts virgin tropical rainforest, white sand beaches, volcanic rock rising from crystal clear waters and fringing coral reefs with a diversity of marine life. As well as diving and snorkelling, there’s kayaking, hiking and sailing – and aching muscles can be soothed in the fabulous waterfront Ocean Spa where treatments are inspired by traditional Fijian healing methods.
