Dear Patrick,
Greetings from Thailand! We are currently celebrating Songkran, probably Thailand’s most vibrant…and crazy in nice way…festival. And without doubt Chiang Mai is the best place to celebrate this festival and where better than Rachamankha located as it is within the old city. The festival is celebrated for at least 3days in a unique style of splashing water on your fellow man…and woman…the symbology being one of cleansing oneself or others of the previous 12months bad luck or sins in readiness for a new year. The old city is roughly a square mile and is enclosed by a moat, the perimeter road of which is lined for the 3 days by people throwing water or squirting water with water pistols at each other the essence of which is a blessing; always in good spirits and the typical Thai sense of ‘sanuk’ (fun) underlined with the tradition of merit making. A quite unique, fun, incredible experience. and a very wet one too!
With love from the Rachamanka!
