Scattered down the side of an unspoiled stretch of jungle valley, this is one of Ubud’s most stunning hotels. The location is secluded, around 30 minutes drive from Ubud town centre, but the resort’s key unique feature is its funicular which spans the length of the valley from top to bottom. Guests can enjoy a short ride and stunning views whilst travelling between their rooms, the spa and the restaurant. Each of the 38 stand-alone villas has its own private infinity pool and all are both spacious and elegant. In true Balinese style, each villa has a thatched roof and dark wood floors. However, the many large windows and white bed with mosquito net create a sense of light, ensuring that rooms feel bright and airy. The pool is over six metres long and its edge overlooks the jungle – the higher the room, the better the view. Bathrooms are also a highlight featuring both indoor and outdoor showers. Indoors, there is a huge sunken terrazzo bathtub – a signature feature for Pansea hotels, now part of the renowned Orient Express group. The resort also boasts a breathtaking two tier infinity swimming pool whose free form edges flow over into the jungle itself. There is a spa for relaxation and treatment rooms are semi-open, allowing guests to listen to the sounds of the jungle as they are being pampered. The café offers light food as well as daily activities including how to make a Balinese flower offering, a weekly dance lesson or kite-making for children. The main restaurant is on a higher level and enjoys amazing views across the jungle canopy.
