Discover Hobart, Freycinet, the Bay of Fires and Cradle Mountain!
Days 1 & 2 – Hobart On arrival in Hobart, you will be met and transferred to The Islington, Hobart’s finest small luxury hotel. The vibrant city of Hobart is a great place to begin your Tasmanian holiday! You may like to do a day trip to Port Arthur or Bruny Island, or simply take the time to discover the charm and beauty of Hobart. If you are visiting on a weekend, don’t miss the fabulous Salamanca Market which is held every Saturday. Days 3 & 4 – Freycinet Collect your hire car and head north up Tasmania’s stunning East Coast – your destination today is Freycinet and your home for the next 2 nights is Freycinet Lodge which is uniquely positioned within Freycinet National Park. The turquoise waters and dazzling white sands of Wineglass Bay are simply captivating! Day 5 – Launceston Enjoy a final morning discovering the delights of Freycinet before making your way to Quamby Estate near Launceston. This delightful homestead is your home for the night and starting point for the Bay of Fires Walk tomorrow. You will also stay here for the night after the walk, so any additional luggage can be stored here. Days 6 – 8 – Bay of Fires Walk You will be picked up from Quamby Estate and taken to the edge of Mt William National Park, to the magnificent wilderness coastline known as the Bay of Fires. For the next 4 days and 3 nights you will travel in a small group led by a well-informed Tasmanian guide as you discover the dramatic landscape, ecology and wildlife of this wilderness paradise. You will explore both the pristine beach environment and the rich diversity of the nearby woodlands. This is a relaxed walk with plenty of time to discover secluded beaches and coves, spot wildlife, enjoy a swim, take to the water on a kayak or just curl up with a book. The first night’s accommodation is at Forester Beach Camp, a simple yet comfortable camp nestled in a protected sand dune. The twin share rooms have timber floors and canvas roofs and there are private wash areas with composting toilets. The final 2 night’s accommodation are at Bay of Fires Lodge – this stunning glass and timber lodge, which is the only building on 20 kilometres of outstanding coastal wilderness, enjoys fabulous views of the pristine beaches – the ultimate refuge after a wonderful day’s exploring! Day 9 – Launceston Time to explore the beaches and headlands, take a swim or relax in the lodge this morning before returning, via the Tamar wine region, to the walkers’ base at Quamby Estate for your overnight stay. Days 10 & 11 – Cradle Mountain Head west today (a 2 hour drive) to Cradle Mountain to discover the incredible lakes, mountains, forests and of course wildlife, of this fascinating part of Tasmania. With a spectacular location in Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park, Cradle Mountain Lodge is surrounded by numerous walking trails. Horse riding, mountain biking and fly-fishing are also available and there is a wonderful spa! Day 12 Drive to Devonport for your onward flight.
